Alzheimer's Care via Home Care Agencies

If you’re the care giver of someone with Alzheimer’s, you already know the tremendous responsibilities involved. Caring for someone 24/7 places enormous demands on your time and other relationships – and it often feels like a thankless position. Contrarily, one might even feel guilty about seeking outside help. Don’t beat yourself up – many have gone through this, and the number of options for help might surprise you.
Home Care is most often the first choice for helping those with Alzheimer’s, as many families prefer to keep parents and loved ones at home. Home Care allows your parent to remain in familiar surroundings, unlike moving to a nursing home, which can be more disruptive and cause even more confusion. Not to mention, home care options are less costly than nursing homes. Recognizing the need for outside help such as a companion, nursing assistant or homemaker, is an important step, and gives care givers the space and time needed to avoid the “burnout” that is so frequently reported from caring for an elderly parent or loved one with Alzheimer’s.
Rest assured that home care for people with Alzheimer’s can only be given by licensed health workers, such as skilled nurses, or other rehabilitative or in-home services. Also, importantly, Medicare may pay for some home health care, but only if you meet certain qualifications and conditions.
Medicaid home and community based programs
Additionally, if your loved one receives Medicaid and needs help with daily activities such as eating, bathing or dressing, you may already be receiving help from a paid caregiver in your home. If you are, your state may have a program that allows you, rather than a healthcare provider, to decide who will provide services in the home, when the services will be provided and how the work will be accomplished. All states have different rules. In any case, we can help walk you through all of the options. Simply fill out our brief survey to have one of our caring staff help you determine the best care for your unique situation.
