| What options are there to pay
for home care?
Our mission is to help people stay independent and living at home
for as long as they can. But we know that not everyone can afford
to pay for our services without assistance.
Here are some resources that are available to help ease the cost
of home care services.
Long–term care insurance
This helps defray the cost of care at home or in a nursing facility.
It can protect your loved one’s assets and cover a considerable
portion of home care costs. A lot depends on of the terms of a
given policy. We’re happy to work with insurance companies. So
be sure to learn whether your loved one has such a policy.
Reverse mortgages
If your loved one has built up sufficient equity in a home, it’s likely
that they can pursue a reverse mortgage, which is a loan against
that equity. It need not be repaid as long as your loved one lives
in the home. With a reverse mortgage, you effectively convert a
home’s value into cash, without the need to make monthly payments.
The money can be used to pay for home care, among
other things.
Veterans Administration
This source of government help includes a program for assisting
with home care expenses for qualified veterans. Please visit the
Our Services page to read details.
Local departments of aging
There are numerous state and local programs that offer home care
assistance to seniors who qualify. A good place to start is your
local Area Agency on Aging.
Viatical life settlements
For some types of life insurance policies, there are companies
that offer policyholders the option to sell their policies in
exchange for a lump sum payment, provided the policy’s value is
greater than its “cash surrender” value.
